Racking Up Another Goal

I got the coat rack hung today.  It actually wasn't as challenging as I expected it to be, but I was still overly tired from coping with all the details when I got the project completed.  First I had to move all of the coats, which had lost their previous home when I removed the nails and old coats hooks from this area behind the door prior to Spackling and painting earlier in the week...

Exhausted when I completed that project late that evening, I'd thrown the coats on top of this plastic storage box that substitutes for a tool box, workbench, garage...

With the weather improving, I'll soon be able store this out in the woodshed again, but this winter I needed to have it accessible, so it has been taking up space on one of the couches.  I needed to access this box because I needed my drill...

...which I found and it was still charged from late last summer when I used it to replace some very old nails with roofing screws in the cabin roof.  (I wish I had been blogging then.  I'm sure it was quite a sight.  I told my brother I roofed like a girl, sitting down and scooting around instead of standing up and walking about on top of the cabin with confidence).  When I purchased the drill, I bought a set of screw drivers, but no drill bits.  With this project in mind, I purchased the drill bits at Walmart Easter eve.

I had already driven in a couple of temporary brads to see if I had the shelf where I wanted it and that the hanger on the far right would not interfere with the door when it was open...

Then I drilled small pilot holes to make screwing in the screws easier.  I found a couple of really old screws whose patina matched that of the coat rack...

...and screwed those in at each end...

I discovered when I started hanging up my jackets and coats that I was also going to need to put in screws at all the other points in order to keep the rack from slipping forward.  I had one more old screw and I used that in the center, then had to opt for new black ones on the points on either side of that.  To make it even more secure, I used some black rubber spacers I'd purchased for another project to keep the rack from slipping forward.  I discovered these would also fit on the tips of each of the posts to keep things in place so need to get more spacers the next time I go to Ace...

I'm pretty sure it's secure and it looks good...

I'm not even going to show it with all of my coats and jackets back in place as it is totally hidden!  Once I get my winter clothes put in storage hopefully a little more of it will be exposed as I think it is quite pretty.

It has been cold and windy all day.  The thermometer says 41F degrees, but it seems colder.  We got quite a nice little thunderstorm about bedtime last evening.  I'm not sure how much it rained.  We are really heading back into winter with daytime highs predicted to be in the 30s and a 70%-80% chance of snow Saturday and Sunday.  It was a good day for this kind of project.

What task have you checked off your list recently?  Teddee
