Look what I found. The surprises continue. I love unpacking my finds after I go thrifting. Sometimes I don't unpack right away to extend the pleasure. Today, when I finally got out to the car with daylight but sans wind, I found not only this plate, which I think is a real find, but a couple of other minor items I'd forgotten about.
I collect antique porcelain. At Goodwill on Saturday, this plate had something odd, I'm not even sure what it was, sitting in the center of it. I think someone may have made an attempt to disguise it! I didn't see it until I'd been up and down this aisle at least twice, and my eye is usually better than that. At any rate, I was pleased to note, when I turned it over that a) the staff hadn't stuck the price tag on top of the marking, which they usually do (in fact it had no tag), and b) this was a pre-World War I item. See the Prussian marking.
When I researched this on-line I found that the "B" stands for Beyer
& Bock, a porcelain decorating company founded in 1890 in Volkstedt,
Thuringia, Prussia. The trademark was registered about 1905. I found a
listing, no photo unfortunately, for a set of four Royal Rudolstadt dessert plates with multi-color roses and small white flowers and gold
rims for $80. But they only measured 6 1/8" in diameter. This plate is 8.5". Perhaps a luncheon plate? At any rate, I'm happy. I just checked my receipt and it appears I was charged 50 cents for the plate.
I also purchased this interesting little painted glass for 45 cents, which I am going to use for my toothbrush, replacing a truly awful plastic/rubber "glass," one of several that have been here at the cabin for years for use as toothbrush holders by family and friends visiting in the summer.
Much nicer, no?
And then this innocuous bottle, for 99 cents, that I'm going to use for my dish washing detergent just as soon as I can get one of those pouring stoppers.
So, all in all, a very successful and thrifty outing. Have you ever deliberately camouflaged or tucked out of sight something you wanted at a thrift store the day before a sale? Come on! Teddee
